Featuring Photos by Lee Harrison

Lee Harrison says, ?Of all the many gifts my Dad gave me over the years, the most precious was the gift of photography. He gave me my first camera and taught me how to capture the personality of even the ugliest bug. When I was a kid, he taught me to walk through the woods without scaring off the birds and animals so we could get as close as possible to wildlife. ?Heal, toe, heel, toe, heel...don?t shuffle your feet!??

?My photographs have been published in magazines and newspapers all across the country?I?ve won contests and awards?but my favorite accomplishment is working as a photographer for the Port Aransas South Jetty newspaper.?

Honoring Harvey Heroes
Give recognition to all who helped you through Harvey

Port Aransas Parks & Recreation is having a night to praise, honor, recognize and give thanks to and for individuals who have made your Harvey journey more bearable. We will celebrate these angels on the anniversary of the night Hurricane Harvey decimated Port A, Saturday, Aug. 25.

Luminarias (votive candles set into a small, decorative paper bag weighted with sand) will be available for everyone at no cost to decorate any way they want to give credit to everyone they appreciate. People will put out their decorated and lit bags 7:30-8 pm in Roberts Point Park for everyone to see and take pictures. Music will play as neighbors, friends, and strangers commend each other for making it through the past year. As the night darkens (around 8:20pm), the luminarias will be a beacon shining to show the world we are still here, and we are strong.
We believe our community has made it this far because of each individual who gave a hug, a hand, a smile and encouragement, and individuals need to be recognized as well as the companies who have helped.
Parks & Rec is looking for sponsors to help purchase the luminarias, to help with refreshments. Anyone interested, please contact Community Program Coordinator Pam Greene at pamg@cityofportaransas.org or in office at 361-749-4158.
